Default fan advice.

Im thinking i want to remove the belt driven fan my 81 has and go totally electric. Could someone provide some advice on a fan setup that will provide sufficent cooling and will fit with minimal fabrication. I was thinking of seeing if a C5 setup would fit my application.

ideas?

Has anyone else done this? Results?

veh isnt running hot. I want to get rid of the belt driven fan to clean up engine compartment, as well as cut down on fan drag/noise.

There are several options out there. The favorite I think is the Spal dual 11" fan with shroud. You can get an 18" Lincoln Mark VIII fan which is supposed to be the highest rated CFM of all of them. I bought one for $50.00 at a junk yard. Performance auto stores will carry electrical ones as well.

I installed the Dewitts SP460 dual Spal fan kit with controller in my 1970 350/350. As advised elsewhere on the forum, the fans had to be shifted as far to the passenger side of the radiator to clear the driver's side a-arms. It fit well with that adjustment. I set it up to turn one fan on at 165F, the other comes on at 195F and when I run the A/c, both fans fun full speed. It works well in Texas heat. These are puller fans and they do a super job.
I also installed a serpentine pulley assembly from March (P/N 20426). I replaced the stock compressor with a Sanden that had rear ports from Hot Rod Air. Have a chrome Saginaw power steering pump and a chrome high output alternator and a reverse direction water pump provided from March. It looks great and frees up space in front of the engine as well.
Removing the engine driven fan takes a big load off the engine. It seems to rev quicker.

I found that a 1 fan unit is real loud and has to run most of the time. The dual electric fan are much quite. I have dual Flex-O-Lite w/adjustable controler pulling 2300 cfm's. Can't beat any dual fan set up.
