Default 71 lost all electric power

I disconnected the horn relay and when I went to put it back on I have no power to the car.

I have run a jumper cable from the battery to the horn relay and I have power for non switched items and switched items, the car will start.

I have ordered the wall wiring diagram from Don Olson.

The GM wiring diagram does show one fused line and that goes from the horn relay to the a/c high speed blower and that fuse works fine.

The GM diagram does not show a fuse in the wire on the red line to the starter solenoid.

The other red line goes into the wiring harness and I assume it comes out at the alternator.

The double wire on the horn relay comes out of the wiring harness and they each change color and have a connector to change wire sizes and color. These connectors have a rubber protective shield, I removed one and the connector is fine and no sign of a fuse there. The GM manual says they are connectors also on the wiring diagram.

The GM diagram shows the black # 2 from the battery to the starter solenoid and there are no fuses or breaks shown.
The haynes manual 68 to 82 corvette, wiring diagrams are drawings and cover one item, non of which help me with this problem.

Where did I break the connection? How does the horn relay get its power?

thanks,
Larry

I am looking for my dir/backup fuse blowing problem solution. When I turn on the ignition key I blow that fuse.

I have gone through the rear wires and disconected the rear harness and it is still a problem.

I have disconnected the steering column, still a problem.

The front lights all check out the flashers all work and the stop lights work, and I am exploring the possibility of disconnecting the front wiring harnes from the dash pannel.

I have gone through the nutral safety/backup switch and all wired in the console.

So I chose to work on the horn relay and see if that could be a problem before I take the fuse box apart. That is why?

thanks,
larry

Default Finaly Ended This Post!!

Hi all, The power is back.

Thanks for your help. The problem ended up to be the workers error!! That's me.

I let one of the red wires to the horn switch fall to the bottom and missed it.

I am sure all of you diagnosed operator error long ago but thanks for being patient.
