well the #2 and #3 body mount nuts are captured in 1/8" steel cages, not that flimsy sheet metal one the #4 uses, so they should hold up a lot better...they're also a little more protected from the elements for whatever that's worth.
I wouldn't bother putting the #4 cage back in either, for mine I cut an 1/8"" steel plate the size of the bottom of the well, and welded a square nut to the top of it. Then I painted the whole deal and put it back in. that with stainless bolts and anti-sieze should make it easy to remove if I ever have to again.
eh, did mine years ago, down here,....simple, really, just cut out with a sawzall while taking tension off the mount by jacking the rear up a bit...just a hair...did remove one of the tabs to get new mount in place, cant remember which one though...used stainless nuts and bolts all around for install, ditched the cage nuts...
Is there some overwhelming reason why I should go to the trouble to rivet in a new captive nut/cage, other than NCRS Seems to me, a big plate washer and new nut would be easier and work better for the next poor bastard that want's to do a frame off.......after I'm long gone
Bullshark
No NCRS here, so I didn't bother with that cage & nut crap. Didn't stress out using cheap-o pop rivits either. Stainless #12 machine screws with stainless nylock's & washers to mount the support, and quality stainless bolt, oversize washer & nut for the spacer.

hey, I ended up buying a welder to fix the frame mount because all the quotes I was getting for someone to come out and do it were around $300, so you better believe I'm gonna use it every chance I get
now if i can only get the front fender supports back together

Bob, are you replacing the cushions also. I think ours are aluminum and you can use later rubber mounts to quiet the car down some. Just curious as this is one of those jobs I have not done to mine. I have thought about it quite a bit though.

Eddie, no, I am only working on #4 mounts so I will stay with the metal spacers. If it was on RamJet, I might consider it. It's on the LT-1.....You know, the one from Iowa no wonder the damn brackets are rusted out.
This is my passenger-side rear well splash sheild. The fender doesn't look like it's ever had any damage - I can't imagine why there is a piece missing.
Maybe previous owner blew a tire or picked up a chunk of debris on the hiway?
Not to jack the thread but....
i remember reading someone doing the work i am going to have to do.... it was a green vette... i just can't seem to find it in a search... it had pics and everything...

Sorry for the hi-jacking...
thanks for the help guys~!
Not a problem John...still on topic from my view
I don't remember the post you refer to, but looks like you have to go thru a similar exercise I just did, with a little fiberglass work in addition. Can't tell from the pic but the frame bracket still looks good after a little clean-up. If it were me, I would remove and replace that upper body bracket just as I am doing and do some fiberglass work to repair and beef up the body in that area. It looks like you can do the fiberglass work without removing the body??????

Might be. Except for the lower edge of the hole, it's a pretty clean slice. Looks more sawed than smashed. Maybe a hole got punched in there and they just trimed the edges of it.
