Re: How much does a small block weigh? (KenSny)
When they shipped my ZZ4 they said it was about 440 LBS (with crate I am guessing).
That is with aluminum heads and intake.
I think a 750 should be plenty. Don't worry when they start to droop when you get all the accessories installed.
They always do that !!
I was looking at my motor the other day. It's been on that engine stand for months. The way it bolts up to the stand looks like it would distort the block.
I think the next time I build up a motor I'm going to support it at the motor mounts when I bolt on the heads & intake. My .02 :yesnod:

Considering I just had a big block with iron heads on the same type stand for several months, it did droop alot, I would definately say no problem. :seeya

Thanx guys.....sounds like I am fine...another question for you all then.
My stand did not come with any bolts to mount the engine to the stand....it looks like I need 4 bolts about 4" long to go through the "tube" part of the stand (they look like four adjustable arms on a plate that rotates) and into the back of the block?
Is that how it works?
I knOW this may be a dumb question...but I would rather ask a dumb question, than have a dropped motor...
Re: How much does a small block weigh? (lvrpool32)
You got it, just use the two top and two bottom bellhousing bolts, arrange the thing so it's symetrical, or damn close....so when/if you flip the engine over it's balanced on the stand....
these engine weights are funny thing, it all obviously depends on what the engine is assembled with....iron or aluminum....pumps, pans, heads, headers, induction--induction type, assessories, brackets...
by the time it all said and done, it's a rare engine that don't finish off at close to 8-900 lbs total....BB probably even more....depending...
I mean, lift a box of ARP bolts one time, and man, that just head bolts!!!
20 lbs it seems....
funny with the weight of aluminum vs iron heads even....all that steel in the 'aluminum' heads...and what do you have??? a heavy head....
Re: How much does a small block weigh? (lvrpool32)
Just an interesting side note. I was in a machine shop last week. There were 2 LS1 blocks
and an LS6 block on the floor. All were completely bare except for the steel cylinder
sleves and the main caps. I'm an average build guy and I could lift either of these one handed
with no effort. Very Very light stuff!
