Default 1971 brakes

I'm trying to bring back to life a 1971 Vette that hasn't run in a few years.
I'm stuck with the brakes. Can't seem to bleed the front brakes??? The manual talks about holding a pin open in the combination valve when bleeding, however, my combination valve ( proportioning valve ) doesn't have any such pin to hold open.. I'm stuck!!! Anybody got any good advice on how to move forward on this problem?? Standing by,, Larry

if you get no fluid when you bleed the front brakes the master cyl. may be bad. remove the front line from the master and have someone press the pedal and check for fluid pressure. be careful and don't get dot 3 brake fluid on your paint. it aint pretty.
