Default Starter Help Needed

Motor 350 about 400hp with 350 auto trans .With a mini starter from Jegs The problem the starter sounds like metal spinning on metal when starting. It has been shimmed and looked at while engaging to make sure it is lined up with fly wheel. With no plugs in the car it spins fine. But put a load on ,,,not good. Now its starting to eat the gears. Jegs says send it back they will replace Is there any other tricks to try when new one gets here?

I just went though that only I was useing my old starter which it too spinned the engine without plugs.I've just rebuildt my 350,with a new starter it fixed the problem. The mini starter may not have enough muscel to turn the 400hp,don't damage your flywheel, get a starter with muscels.

I know you may not want to hear this, but you would have been way better off with a quality factory starter. Too much hype on those afermarket high dollar fixes. You will probably get many replys about this for my statement that your better off with stock parts. Starters and alternators are a major part of our business, and I know them very well and what will work and what will be a headache as you are now finding out. Get your money back, dump the mini. If it was a race car and weight was a issue, then keep it and buy some more as spares
