[FONT="Book Antiqua"][SIZE="1"] I want to install A.C. in my 1970 convertable L46 4 speed. is there an after market kit avalable or should i be looking for a complete system from a doner car.
Yes, there are many different ones. I have seen them before at places like Ecklers, Corvette Central, etc. They are very expensive.
I am not sure that I would go for a donor system unless I was absolutely sure it was working on the previous car. You might end up putting it in and then find out it is leaking, or the compressor is bad, etc.
Just my .02, but if you are going to do it, go with an aftermarket system.
Hot Rod Air, Classic Auto Air are 2 that come to mind. I have installed a HRA system in my 79. I like the way the unit went in, but I haven't fired the car yet. Everyone else with a HRA unit says it will freeze your gonads off. The HRA unit allows you to use your Vette's current heater control to control their unit. It's a simple mod. Or you can mount an underdash controller, it's up to you. $1100. It would be very difficult to install a salvaged unit, the firewall holes are differently sized, vacuum routing, fresh air intakes, etc would make this a task you'd gladly pay $1100 to get out of. If you need a new dash, now is the time. The units can be installed w/o removing the dash, but it's a lot easier with it out.
