I am looking for some specs on my `75 L-48. It seems that I should be able to make power fairly easily with some bolt-ons.
I'm looking for recommendations for headers, intake manifold and camshaft. Things to consider are hood clearance with as tall an intake as I can get. Also I am not sure what rear gear this thing has. I'm assuming that it is stock. Hopefully it's shorter than 3.08. I should be able to come close to doubling my current HP.
Do these have the 2.02 heads?
Also, how can I ID the heads and block so that I know what I have?
Where are the engine and head codes located? Something seems odd to me about this car. The front and rear clips are from a 80-82 although the title says that it's a `75.
Yesterday I went to order a carb rebuild kit and the number is a 17080204 which I think is from an `80. So if I can find the engine and head codes then I can see if I have a boat anchor or not.
If your heads are 80 they're still boat anchors. Just slightly newer boats anchors.
Seriously though, head codes are stamped on the top ("deck") of the heads in front of the valve covers. If you have newer bodywork chances are the cars was wrecked and the PO used newer parts (very common). What year does your VIN say your car is??

Look under the valve covers to find the head part number. If you have stock heads then they will be ###624. They have 1.94/1.50 valves and oh yes...cracks.
These heads seemed to have been made to crack...cause that's what they do best.
Spend the $800 and get a really nice set of heads and rebuild the engine, get rid of those dished pistons and that cam, stamped rocker arms, etc. Or just buy a rebuilt performance engine and do a weekend swap-out.
If your goal is to truly double your HP you need modern heads
that have much better combustion chamber design and improved
ports. Even the non smog era 64cc 202/160 valve heads are no
match for modern heads. A 180 size runner modern head would
work well with a 350. If you have an auto with 308 rear gears
pick a cam with no more then 270 adv. duration on the intake.
You have room for a edelbrock RPM manifold and drop base air
cleaner under your hood, dual plane manifolds can handle a good
size carb a 750 would help flow air to double your HP. Go with
a 1 5/8 tube header with a 3/8 thick flange.

Were dealing with a 2 bolt main block here so I doubt that will ever happen
As far as the gearing goes I have 3.08's and at 70 MPH I am turning abour 2,200 RPM with the Muncie M-20.
Perhaps that will help you determine your gear ratio.
If not, there are other ways.
You must have tires that are taller than 26". My Firebird has a 3.08 with a Borg Warner Super T-10 and is at 2800 at 70MPH. The Pontiac is doing 320 HP with 2 bolt mains.
