I reinstalled my power steering unit. I noticed it was leaking from the ball stud seal at the pitman arm and "the grease fitting" on the control valve. What is the purpose of this "fitting" on the control valve.
the control valve has 2 halves internally, the actual valve side that controls which way the fluid moves through the ram, and the ball stud side which pushes on the valve spools. The ball stud is packed with grease and seperated from the valve side. If you have steering fluid coming out of either the ball stud opening or the grease fitting, your internal seals are shot and its time for a rebuild.
It is also possible for fluid to be leaking from above somewhere and dripping from the fitting because it is a low point, so wipe everything down and take a good look at it first. Rebuilding the valve looks kinda scary at first, but is not really that hard to do.
