Default a/c help

I have had my '78 C3 ac converted to r134. Afterwords I had to pull the engine and disconnected the ac compressor. Now, all is back together and I need to recharge the system. The problem is I can't find the low pressure import valve. I do find what looks like one on the dryer. Is this the case and can I add the r134 thru that port. Also where does the orifice tube go. Finally, when I turn on the vent or ac I am not getting air thru the vents, but the air is coming out thru the floor where the heat would come out. I would appreciate any help. Thanks

Steve

you should have the system evacuated before you recharge it. Also, if the system was open for a long time, you shoud replace the accumulaor. The orafice tube goes into the evaporator inlet.

The low pressure side for recharging can be done on the large fitting of the compressor coming from the evaporator, NOT the smaller one leading to the condensor.

You can try to recharge the system without having the system evacuated first, but it won't cool as well. There will be too much air and moisture in the system. Leaving the moisture in the system might also cause corrosion over time.

Isosceles, thanks for the reply. I will evac the system before re-charging. I do have a question, I can't find the fitting on the hose from the compressor to the evap. I'm wondering if I can use the fitting on the dryer to import the r134. Thanks,

Steve

Yes...it looks like the you can use the fitting at the dryer...from the dryer a hose runs to the low pressure side of the compressor.

anywhere on the outlet side of the evap would be low pressure.
