Default Header question

Putting on new ceramic coated headers next week. When I was testing fitting these, I noticed the headers (hooker comps) fit better (more room) around the spark plugs and the idler rod, but are about an inch closer to the floor of the car. Question...What should I do to the starter to keep this additional heat from frying it? Will I even have problems? Thanks for the insight.

The ceramic coating will help but you can also buy heat resistant wraps that are made specifically for starters. My local starter/alternator rebuilding shop sells them but they may also be available from Summit or Jegs.

Les- Good idea. I'll call the local starter/alt rebuilder and get something from them, or order from Jegs. Thanks

You could wrap the header where it is close to the starter.

I think my starter is actually the original starter and I've had long tube headers for probably over 6 months without any "heatsoak" issues. 90% of the time I go to start my vette it only takes like a half to one and a half cranks to get started anyways.

Be careful with the header wrap- it can deteriorate the metal for the tubes & lead to early failure. I've not only read that elsewhere but have seen it referred to by members here.
