I just got my diff back from having gears put in by a pro shop. Its not in the car yet. When I turn the pinion yoke its has a certain amount of drag. Its very smooth thru the entire rotation though. Is it normal to feel a bit of drag in the pinion on a newly set up gear set? My original 3.08's turned much easier. I went from 3.08 to Richmond 3.90 with a complete installation kit. thanks for responses.
Jvette,
If you took a poll, genuine GM gears or Richmond gears i bet Richmond would lose.ALL my stuff (and i have 5 or 6 complete rear ends) is GM.

PS: I know an old time (VERY knowledgeable) stock car racer who could not get a Richmond R&P to "set-up" NO matter what he did. He owns a large race parts supply in Milwaukee, so richmond said "send it in" and we will see what your doing WRONG, so the old guy sent it in AFTER he marked it in a special place. Richmond called and told him they got it to "set-up" PERFECTLY NO problem what so ever! Funny thing though when he got it back there was NO mark in his special place, BUT it was "set-up" perfectly. They switched it to a good one!
Be sure to take it easy on the breakin. Just picked up my diff yesterday after 3:55 install and blueprint. Builder said short 10-mile trips at first to allow break-in. Gears will produce alot of heat as they settle in so the short trips allow warm-up/cool down. Installed Spicer gears in my Dana44.
Ok guys thanks for the reassurance. Im gettin my overalls on in a few to put it togeather. I will take it easy with short trips at first. Im also in the middle of a tranny swap at the same time. Th400 to BTO 200R4.
