My 78 with the L48 started having oil pressure readings close to 80. I replaced the sending unit and now the reading is pegged all the way to the right, well past 80. Is this a bad gauge?
I might add that the unit I removed had a pinhole size aperature. The replacement had an opening closer to the diameter of the tube, so maybe the sending unit is the wrong one.
I changed the oil at the same time I replaced the sending unit.
How can I tell if the oil pressure is truly this high, and what would cause it?
I recently rebuilt my engine, and added a mechanical oil gauge to the engine compartment for use during intial break in. If you did the same, It could serve as a benchmark to compare to the electro mechanical stock guage.
Anywho, 80 PSI @ idle sounds high, to say the least.
