After talking with a fellow forum'r, finding rear speakers that fit without modification, for my 80 Coup my be difficult to do. Also, Eklers 6x9's won't fit as they advertise? Any suggestions?
kloppy80,
No suggestions but I'm in the same boat. Was going to replace radio and speakers this winter using Eklers or another catalog. If you find a good custom fit let us know.
I caught your instant message but it went away???? In any case, here are those speakers. They run around $130.00CDN so that would be about $70.00US. Most stereo shops handling the Pioneer line should have them. Note the comment re "shallow mounting depth" which is the key for use in the C3. http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/Pi...29,359,00.html

Thanks for info. on speakers. Did they fit right in with no mods.? If so I think I'll run down to Circuit City and see if they have them in stock.
No modifications necessary. Just a little gentle persuasion to get them in. Here are pics of how they fit. You will note the narrow vertical gap in the second photo which shows the fit is not perfect. But it has never bothered me and no one else has commented. Others may be more particular, however.
At one point I replaced my entire stereo system with and eclipse system. I spent almost 1000.00 dollars to put a head unit and speakers all the way around. Due to the lack of vibration charicteristics of the 6x9 speaker enclosures in the back my stereo still sounded pretty bad.
I went ahead and disconnected the 6x9's and put it a 6inch bazooka bass tube in the back powered by a 35 watt amplifier ( amp fits into the jack box pretty easily). Now my stereo sounds really good and I can still hear it on the freeway with the tops off.
Just an option. While the bass tube dosn't look like it was made to go in the back it dosn't look bad either.
Yes, I am very happy with them. Mind you I am not a boom-box-volume person but at levels that would drown out conversation they do just fine. And unlike the original paper speakers, these have plastic cones so are impervious to moisture damage, etc. And they retain the stock look and conserve cargo space which is important for some people.
what are the largest speakers you can put in the front kick pannels? Will 6.5" fit? or how bout 5.25"?
How well do subs work, do they rattle the vette to pieces? I have dual 10" rockfords in my ricer and it used to vibrate everything till I dampened things down. I think i'd break stuff in the vette with that kind of vibration. I'm thinking Dual 8" or maybe a Single 10". I want some bass in my music, but obviously i'm short on space and I don't want to break anything.
It currently has eclipse 6x9's in the back in custom boxes, and eclipse 4x6 (i think) in the dash. when you get going with the t-tops off, you can't hear anything, so I figure 6.5" in the kick pannels, and a 10" sub should do the trick.
What eclipse head unit did you get? I was at the store last week looking at systems. Eclipse head CD3421 with Phoenix Gold Tanteum 6x9's in the back. The guy said that based on the design of my vette I have to box in the speakers or I will get NO base. I told him that if I could get the sound that I was hearing in the store in my Vette I would be extreamly happy. He builds competition grade systems and showed me some really nice work. So for $150 he's going to install the head and build custom boxes. I just have to justify $600 to the boss lady.. :cry
I'm running aftermarket 6x9s in the stock rear mounting positions in my '80. The aftermarket speakers would not fit the stock mounting panels, so I fabbed up some new panels out of 1/4" plywood, covered them with blue carpet to match the interior, and installed the aftermarket grilles. My homemade panels use the stock mounting points. Not stock, but slick enough to do a double take.
I have the 4441 Tape Deck unit (w/cd changer), it was put in the car before I bought it, as was the speakers. Its ok, but theres not much base, i'm gonna have to throw a sub in there.
I've been checking for Pioneer TS-929 speakers and can not find them. Checked with Circut City and Best Buy and several Stereo Installation shops. So, I checked with Corvette Central and found that they had bought some remaining stock speakers from Delco. They sell for $21.50 a piece. I talked with the technical service department and they said they are the original speakers. Since I'm not interested in blowing my ear drums out, these will work great for me, if they fit like the original. I will let you know when I get them! :troll
