Default Courtesy Light

OK, I am on a quest to get the interior lights working (and replaced) on my 73. Seemed like a quick little midweek job.

The courtesy light in the back had a burned out bulb...I replaced it. The right side kick panel light works fine and the driver side is missing completely. When I open the doors, the pass kick panel light goes on and turns off when the doors are closed. However, the courtesy light doesn't, even with a new bulb.

When I turn the dimmer switch, the courtesy light in the back goes on but the kick panel light goes off...regardless of whether or not the doors are open. It is such that the courtesy light is switched opposite the way it should be. Can this be as simple as having the two leads on the courtesy light crossed (assuming there are two leads)?

Maybe its supposed to function like this. I assumed the courtesy light would go on with the others (ie when the doors are ajar).
Any advice would be much appreciated!

I don't really have a good answer for you, but the rear light and both footwell lights should all go on and off at the same time. I think you can get some weird stuff like that happening with bad grounds, but your best bet is to get a wiring diagram and check everything out. I can't even tell you how many electrical problems I've fixed so far just by reconnecting loose wires.

I also hate it when the eletrical system throws you a curve. Id have to say........ buy a 12 pack and plan on a day off to spend the next 2 weeks tracking down all the wires. then pretend that yr gona kick the dog in the back yard , and kiss the wife because you just found the problem
we all have so many little problems. (lol), come over to my home and Ill do the same to find all these little gismoes , lol
(Plz dont be offended, just a little humer).

No offense taken on my end. Although, I don't have a wife or a dog so I may have to go back to the drawing board. I was afraid someone would say to track down the wiring. No exactly my idea of fun, I'd much rather do something mechanical.

Oh well, thanks for the advice.
