But by going GM you know your oil pump pick-up would be spot on.
Good luck!
I have asked many if that pan would fit a BB vette to no avail!

Well actually, I'm not sure if it clears PS if you have it. Might need to check that with someone else.
Otherwise there are a couple of other hardcore pans out there, but I'm not sure that's what you're looking for.

Try measuring from the pan rail down and from the lowest point on the rear main down. Grab a straight edge for the bottom of the pan and take several measurements. Also use the tranny and tranny dust cover as general reference points for eye-balling, maybe that will help. I think you'll end up having to jack up the car. Trying to measure for PS clearance is tricky without fixtures; i missed it by about 3/8" on my first try using tape, squares, and fiddle-t-widgets. The assist cylinder is closest to the pan when wheels are locked left.
The 1/2" lower on the 86 pan would be great if all else works; i'd assume that the windage and pick-ups are different.
427Hotrod has good suggestion too; you may find the old LS-7 pan/pickup and windage tray to work well. If all you have is dings on the factory pan, seems like the easiest solution is a replacement in kind.
If you mix/match parts, just make sure to check the standard items like oil pickup to pan clearance, etc., and that the windage scheme is consistent. If you are already getting dings on the pan, don't consider AL, stay with sheet metal.

am going to replace it. Anybody offer some advice about what works/fits other than stock?
