StingrayRacing -- it wouldn't take much squeeze with your combination to keep up. A 125 - 150 HP shot and I'd be looking at your tailpipes!
Alwyn68 -- I should have pictures of dyno day posted later this week. BTW it was a GSX, not a GTX. Both cars are extremely well done and detailed.
69ttop502 -- It is a Comp XE solid roller I had ground on a 112 instead of 110 degree lobe angle. It installed 4 degrees advanced (108 ICL) .050" intake duration is 254 and exhaust is 260 degrees. Intake lift is .660" and exhaust .670"
The custom headers (Tubular Automotive, Rockland, MA) have 2 1/8" primaries and 4" collectors feeding 4" pipes stuffed under the stock side pipe covers.
I have 3 inch pipes and it's loud. I never even thought about 4 inch. :D Brutal power is what you have. At first I had to get used to not flooring my car especially in turn. I now have about mastered it. Yours will be a longer learning curve Stingray Racing and I have about the same setup only I have a 700R4. I keep looking at my twin 125 hp port injected Team-G intake. Then I might be able to battle with the big boy's
One of your fellow 540's can do 100 mph burn outs. I can't because I have to good of tires! But I did do a 1/2 track burn out at the drag strip.
That is an incredible amount of power and torque. The fact that the rest of your drive train is still intact builds my confidence in my own set up. With those rear wheel numbers, you're probably in the 650-700+hp, 650+tq range. Obviously, you put together a well-matched, efficient combination. That thing must be a blast to drive!
gkull -- I've had this Corvette for nearly 15 years. I've run exclusively big blocks in it -- originally a 427, then a 454 and finally the 540. I originally installed the 540 7 years ago, now on its 3rd cam and second induction system. I know all too well about power-on oversteer -- that being the primary reason I removed the rear sway bar. I'm happy to say its running better now than in any previous configuration.
That would be fellow 67 540 enthusiast Jim Moore, aka 427Hotrod, with the 100 mph burnouts!
Monty -- Thanks for the kind words. I've spent a lot of time, money, and as my wife would say, "garage words" getting it to its current configuration and state of tune. Words alone cannot describe how much I enjoy driving this car!
I look forward to hearing about your impressive Corvette -- any idea when it will ride in anger? I know you took a hard professional hit a couple of months ago -- I hope things are looking up for you.
I've had mine a out a couple of times already but it's been pretty limited becaue I don't have my exhaust finished yet. I just got my headers made a couple of weeks ago, but I don't have the sidepipes done yet. So I've driven it a couple fot imes with my olde Flowmaster Delta 50's clamped to the header collectors. Since the mufflers are right under the foot wells, it's very loud and there's alot of resonance, but it's been nice to finally drive it with the new motor.
Professionally, things have been kinda slow, certainly not like it was the past few years. I was supposed to start at Baxter Healthcare this past Monday. But unfortunately, I got a call last Friday informing me that the projects budget has been cut and there's a temporary hiring freeze. I felt like I had been kicked in the gut. I've got a couple of others things going on, but needless to say, it was a disappointment. Oh well, it will work out. It's certainly nice to have a 'sugar mama' in these situations ;).
