Default My heads are dead. RIP

Got the word on my heads the other day, There are two cracked seats and three of the valves welded themselves to the guides. The machinist said that it was going to cost about $500.00 to fix em up. They are a crappy set of stock 882s so there's no big loss there. I've decided on the SR Torqer IIs. Good news is that the bottom end is ok. That cost me a lot more to put together. Hoping for a performance gain from the new heads. As you all might know the 882s had 1.94 intakes. The SRs have 2.02s. The car was an original base engine car and I have it doing 15 flat in the quarter now. I am hoping for 14s with the new heads.

Sure thing! It's a 30over 350 with 10/1 flat top pistons. Edelbrock performer with a old comp cams 270H grind. I have a carter 600 afb for a carb and I still have the stock exaust and 3.08 rear end. I have to deal with emissions testing so I kept it mild. It runs a 15 flat at 93mph. I want to put headers and true duals to maximize the cam and heads but I cant afford it just yet. I figure a full second faster than stock isn't to bad. I figure it will be good for 14s with the new heads and an exaust system.

could the damage be caused by a lean condition? What cyl's were cracked/etc? not #3 #5 #7?

Good choice. You might want to consider Sportsman IIs for a little more moolah. A magazine article said that they act like the Torquers down low but at higher rpms start to kick butt. I'm using them and have no complaints about there low end performance. Something to consider.

what happened is that I didn't put the radiator cap on tight and it popped of. Hit the highway at high speed (80ish) and it over heated bad before I knew what was going on. I wish I could afford darts. 200 bucks more. But if i spend that extra 200 might as well spend the extra 300 and get a set of aluminums, etc etc.... I'm not building a race car and I think I would be happy with 14's. There's only so much you can do with the local smog regs. I would have to have more cam and a more free exaust to make full use of the sportsmans.
