Default Temp Guage hookup

I recently put my motor all back together and everything seems fine but my temp Guage is pegged all the way left....I have it hooked up at the passenger side block location...is there another location ? I know there was a sensor on the thermostat housing but I changed it to a chrome one without the senser....Shopuld I have 2 to make it work or will the one on the block be OK? ....Not sure how to remedy this....anyhelp would be great ...sorry for my ignorance :o

Need more info...what year? Also you say "pegged to the left" but on my 79, left is cold and right is hot. If your gauge is pegged hot then it probably indicates that your wire from the sending unit is grounding out somewhere. Try unhooking the wire and see if the gauge reads cold. If not then you've found your problem. However, if the gauge returns to cold after the wire has been disconnected then you'll need to replace your sending unit.
