Thanks for all the comments about attaching the lower shock mount to the fork.
It turns out I filed the knurl down as suggested, put a great deal of never ceize on it and it came in nicely to be flush with the fork by tightening the end bolt. Yeah, another problem solved because of corvette forums members.

Even after filing the knurl slightly, I still had to pound them in with my 2 pound hammer.

Sorry I already posted this but I'm so appreciatinve I've posted it again.
Thanks all for the advice about attaching the lower shock mount to the TA fork. I finally filed down the knurled part a bit especially around the edge towards the fork, put plenty of never ceize on it and it pulled in quite neatly by tightening the castle nut. Thanks for everyones insight, I greatly respect your knowledge and willingness to help.
