I had my 69 apart recently, and had the same situation. I messed around with it for a while, then "bit the bullet" and just pressed it back in place. As you know, it't hard to see anything and wires and cables hang down, so what are you going to do? Good luck.
The main bundle of the wiring harness must be high and to the left. I zip tied mine to keep it in position. Remember, the trip meter cable CANNOT be preassembled in the padding as one would think. You can have it on the speedo, but MUST thread it behind the cross bracing and then install the bottom after the entire assembly is in place.
