Default What a bloody mess !!!!!!!!!

So, decided to get on taking my engine out.

Noticed that its a pain to get out the outer engine/ gearbox bolts - does one normally take the box out at the same time ???

Anyway, lifting the engine and the rope slipped......... the engine was left dangling verticaly with oil and water spilling all over the floor.
What a mess...used lots of old bed sheets to soak it op.

Anyway, heads have an odd exhaust valve - so been a repair in the past.

Bearings seem ok for 100k miles, but gonna throw some new ones in anyway.

Took off horrible 2 -1-2 exhaust and chopped it up for the trash.

Lost the spare wheel and other weights.

Can I remove the 5 mph bumper rams ??

Still worried about the box.

Convertor cover plate missing - but new starter fitted.

The box does not kick down and sounds horrible in first. Any ideas ?? Does not slip.....

And why does it have C6 cast into the top ??
Would have preferred a manual.

There are a number of creative ways to remove an engine. A CorvetteForum member once posted these pictures showing his preference.

I think it would have been easier for the guy that came from underneath to flip the car over and shake it out.

I've found its best to loosen all the bolts, cut the motor mounts with a plasma torch, and lift the entire car leaving the engine sitting in place. I suppose there are other options.
The 2x4 method is a new one but does seem to merit consideration.

How about 1 piece at a time, better than a rope and some 2x4's.
We use to pull them by putting an I bolt through the beam in the
ceiling of the garage and using a chain host. House never fell
in!
