I am about to put Dynomax exhaust headers on my 1973, 350 vette. Has any one else done this recently and did you have to have any problems with clearence? I am hoping they will slide right in but I can imagine that I might have to remove all sorts of components to get the headers into place. Any advice?????
My dynomax heraders went right in from the bottom. Did not even remove the starter. Make sure the car is jacked way high and support frame with jackstands.
Ganey, thanks for the info, most likely I will use dynomax for cost reasons, I have very old old set of hedmans to try out and if happy will buy new set as these are rusted up pretty good and have thin flanges. :D :yesnod:
My Dynomax coated headers work good for me. They look good, they fit good, and for $209 I would buy them again. The collectors stop just a little shorter then other full length headers ive seen and they dump down at a slight angle. They do not hang down and cause clearence problems with the pavement at all. If you have AC you might need to modify the bracket.
LT1driver,
They say Dynomax will only work on an automatic trans equipped C3. If you have manual tranny, maybe thats where the Heddmons or Hookers come in.
HFPO73. YOU MIGHT WANT TO CHECK ON THE CHROME SIDEPIPE ADDITION BEFORE YOU COMMIT TO A HEADER SYSTEM THAT WILL TAKE SOME WORK TO INSTALL. AS OPPOSED TO GETTING ONE THAT ALREADY HAS THAT SET UP AVAILABLE. NOT THAT IT CAN'T BE DONE, BUT MIGHT BE LESS EXPENSIVE FROM THE "GET GO". JUST 2CENTS WORTH. JCL  :chevy
Well, I have two reasons not to buy Dynomax, although I don't think in either case it was Dynomax's fault. I have had two sets of Dynomax headers, and both times, I got the wrong ones. The first time, I got two left headers....what the heck am I gonna do with two left headers? The second time, the left header lined up fine, and the right one fit, but came out right at the floor level. The exhaust guy said he wouldn't even hook them up because it was too close. Under the car you could tell it looked like the left one was made for the car and the right one was the wrong piece (it wasn't even close). The problem with the second set is that I waited 6 months to try and get the exhaust put on...so the 90 day return policy kicks in...I am stuck with em. Now, in Dynomax's favor, I don't believe it was their fault...I believe I got them directly from their ceramic coating company. So I guess if I have some advice, check em out...check the fit...and if anything looks a little off, send em back before the warranty runs out.
Dynomax work great with a 4 spd. Only additional work is to disconnect the clutch linkage prior to install then reconnect afterwards since the crosshaft runs between two pipes.
i bought the cheaper Hedman headers and coated them myself. However for a good result you need to coat them in a dry environment and you'll need a sinter oven for curing (an oven that can be programmed for a temperature map over a certain time) I don't think the backyard mechanic has that ;)
