Rihwoods gets the credit for the idea .
I decided I would try to improve on that idea by building a scoop that went across the entire valance panel, and seeing if it made a differance on my car. I had a gallon of resin, and some mat in my tool shed. I used steel expanded mesh as a skeleton to lay the mat over. A 3'x8' sheet of mesh was $6 and change at Home Depot. I removed the valance panel to use as a patern. I will post pics of the build process hopefully tomorrow (dial up is to slow). For now here is the finished product installed.
I ran a Test at 75mph 98*ambient air temp for a 50 mile trip. The temp gauge read just to the right of the 200* mark at that cruise speed. I don't have a/c, and I think I don't have all the foam seals around the rad. The car also has the origional c/b radiator. It is a noticeable improvement since the last trip at that speed where the temp needle was right between 200 and 250.
Nice job! I like the way that looks, get those seals in place and you will probly be golden. It doesn't take much of a leak to let a Lot of air get around the rad instead of going thru it.
Thank you for improving on the idea...It really looks good....I have a C/B as well....
This is very interesting to me...you have improved on the idea and looks as though you reduced temps by approx 20 degrees...be sure to document your future tests...good job....and thanks for acknowledging my small contribution.... Afterall,I used a dust pan....

Ryan..does your spoiler/air dam funnel air directly thru valance openings..? I set my scoop at 14 degrees forward from horizontal.....think Dr.Jay is close to that...Like your vettes stance by the way...been thinking of changing my 69 front springs...already have a Guldstrand 7 leaf....running stock rear bar till I figure out front end...

Run, don't walk, to a patent attorney... ..bet you see that in Ecklers catalog in a few months.....
Wow. The fees for filing a patent are rather costly, and that doesn't include the attorney fees. I also found out that since I showed it on the forum it now became public knowledge, and is no longer secret.
So lesson learned if you have an idea for a product keep it secret if you want to patent it.
I think Ryan beat you guys to the punch. He has been messing with air dams and scoops for a while.
If it's a marketable product just see if Ecklers wants to buy it. I don't think they care about a patent, just who can provide it to them the cheapest. If it a $100, they will want you to sell it to them for $50 and provide the liability of the product. If it start overheating motors, etc.

I had totally removed my lower valance all together. So I was getting the maximum amount of air flow possible to the radiator. I used to have the extra front lip added on to the air dam I have pictured. You can see that in my sig pic. I decided to ditch the aluminum front air dam setup for now because I scraped it everyday pulling in and out of the parking lot where I work. I replaced it with a 4inch tall piece of plastic so it doesnt matter if it rubs. It doesn't cool as well as the air dam but it still helps.
Here is mine..installed yesterday....replaced sheetmetal one

If I didn't know any better I would think it was something you bought from a vender I'm not laughing, but I do have a smile on my face. I think your creativity is great. My wife wanted to know if you stole that out of your wife's broom closet.(she knows if it was me I would have ) I told her you didn't.
This all started after my trip to Amboy,Ca last July where air temps were110-112 F...ground surface temps were 150 F..very hot driving on a flim project I was on..stop/go/retakes..etc..vette did good except A/C at highway speeds at 70...so I was determined to do a cheap fix(under $100) by doing two things..air scoop..and a remedy for the clutch fan...so far I've spent $14...but may go over budget on clutch fan if the GM version checks out..
Keep us posted on your testing/experience...

Hey, that's hillarious! I'll have to find Ginger and ask her about that! I work at RCP. Started there in January this year. Do you have instructions for that air dam with that part #? I'd love to make one myself for my 68! Maybe I could get my hands on some of these "non-saleable" reject parts for myself and a few of the forum members, eh!?

If your 68 is like my 69, there is no center opening in valance like my 78...so you need (two scoops)2 Rubbermaid dust pans, 4 mounting brackets, bolts, nuts, lockwashers, jig saw, file, drill, and sandpaper...
I'll write up instructions and PM you in morning....it's real easy to do...
Part no. J90-2531-A1(Dust pan) J91-2531-B1 (Handle)
Hey..I sent these pictures above to Ginger... Let me know how they took it...
