They are similar, but about 1.5 inches lower than those used in '67. They sure are pretty! One day I will get my carbs rebuilt and bolt up my 435 horse tri-power setup. I spoke with a guy who rode in GDaina's '68 tripower big block. Very quick. It's a shame that the air cleaner costs so darn much!
TriPower was an option in only 3 years- 1967, 1968, 1969. Although it is also in the 1970 AIM, it was cancelled for 1970. The 67 setup was taller (more of a high-rise) due to more hood clearance. You can fit the 68/69 version on a 67, but you cannot fit the 67 version under a stock 68/69 hood. The setup came in two flavors: big/square port 435 HP and small/oval port 400HP. Besides the intake/head differences, there were some variations in the carbs as well. I have an Excel spreadsheet which I put together with all of the carbs listed showing the differences between the carbs based on Holley part numbers. There are a lot of TriPower carbs sitting around with severe internal "sour-gas" damage. People used to take the setup off in favor of a single 4 barrel carb. This was mostly due to an inability to tune the system, not because of any inherent defects. If you understand Holleys and have a good basic understanding of fuel delivery, TriPower will perform flawlessly. Anyhow- once off the engine, the carbs still had gas in them and would sit in a corner while the gas very slowly evaporated. During this process, the gas would eat into the fuel bowls, the metering blocks/plates, and the carb main bodies. This can happen to any Holley carb, not just TriPower. So... before buying TriPower from anyone, you can save yourself a lot of grief buy inspecting the internals of the carbs. Otherwise, you may end up buying new/repro carbs which are not cheap, so you end up paying for the carbs twice. This is why it is dangerous to buy old or used Holley's off the internet (or e-bay) without some sort of guarantee against sour-gas damage.
