Default Dynomax or Hooker Super Comp Headers?

Any problems? Ive got gm angle head plugs from my LT1 engine.
I want to put the jeep steering box in also. any clearance issues?
I know Dynomax has 1 5/8 primaries and Hooker has 1 3/4? Does it matter? Dynomax are about $300 cheaper.

Thanks

While I can't speak for the Hookers, I have had Dynomax's on my 76 for about 2 years now with no problems. I originally had Headmans on it & they were nothing but trouble. The collectors came very close to the trans pan & the welds were very poor. I think that for the money the Dynomax's are a good buy. Plrobobly not the best around but like I say for the money they are a decent header.

If your engine has the horsepower, the Super Comps will make make more power. I've got Super Comps with AFR 195 angle plugs and they fit OK. Can't say for the Jeep box, but room is really close with the stock box, so you don't have much extra room.

Mine is 388", approx 450 hp, and I have 2 1/2" exhaust system with DynoMax Super Turbo mufflers.

I run the dynomax 1-5/8" w/ 2.5" exhaust & finished off with flowmaster delta 40's. I am real happy with the power, sound, quality of the Dynomax's. I ecspecially like thr ceramic coating. I've ran this system now for 2 years (6k miles and was surpised that the header did not discolor at all, go figure, try that w/ chrome or paiinted headers. Be careful running to big of an exhaust unless you have some serious horsepower.

Almost as interesting is the fact that even with the larger cylinder heads, this 383 still doesn't like larger headers. Despite these lofty power levels, this engine is breathing through a stock Performer RPM Air Gap intake and a set of production 1-5/8-inch Hedman street headers and a pair of Borla mufflers. Taylor tried a set of 1-3/4-inch tubes and came away with less power.
HP 491 TORQ 500

Interesting build up:

IMO you gotta be pushing some serious HP before the 1 3/4" primary headers become necessary, if you are putting out less than 400 hp they are more likely to cost you HP....as far as exhaust pipe diameter goes 2 1/2" duals are sufficient for just about any HP short of 500 IIRC

LOL hey a link to one of Jeff Smith's articles... I went out to dinner with him and some other friends just this last Firday as he was down from LA - doing some work for Car Craft at the Escondido cruise...that is one smart man.
