No,not a retired mechanic...was engineering specialist in shipyard...trouble shooter on structural failures, vibration, noise, involving everything from main engines to auxiliaries...
BTW..I was just making a joke about the EFE,TVS system operation..had no clue on switch temp.....
Great learning exercise on this forum and I need it....

TroubleShooter So you like to know "exactly" what caused the problem for future referance and problems-I like it !edit Oh and I knew you were joking -we could use more of that to keep some of the tension down.

Hmmm they told me cost was 99.75 for AX #343721-new #88961768 and list was 122.84 AX is the lighter duty one of the two--if they have them in stock there is a big difference-check it out--I think you might be able to see it on one of the links someone sent

Just going by what the website listed, which would be better than the AX or AZ? My car is a 79 L82 equivalent with dewitts alum rad and a serious running hot issue,

Operative word "should" be OK. Since AZ is the "big boy" as DW says maybe that would be better????? Im soooo confuuuuuused!
ESU

Gotta measure my fan to see what size it is.

No AX is the big boy-its about 2" thick ---where the AZ is 1.5" thick isnt that right Rich?

I quoted him exactly so you would examine this choice throughly...I'd feel terrible if you got AX and it ended up taking your new Dewitts rad out...keep hammering for an answer....

Yes...I'm thinking also the AZ operates in a more "forgiving" manner...

Everyone I've talked to here at home(radiator shop owners,GM tech mechanic,Hayden tech) cautioned me re heavy duty/severe duty clutches versus fan type and fan pitch for those aftermarket clutches....
GM clutch application may just come down to the fan as well...?????

ESU...think difference is silicone fluid capacity...

"Valve regulates flow of silicone into coupling (of clutch) from a RESERVE chamber".......blah blah...

This has to do with "torque" of fluid on clutch "coupling" up to rotate fan...I think...

Of course,I'm quoting something I read the other day on how these turkey's work....
