Muncie speedometer gear
Does anyone know the inner diameter of the speedometer drive gear that fits on the Muncie main shaft.
I'm making a puller and need to cut out a U-shape slightly larger than this measurement. My trans is still in the car, so I can't measure it.
Thanks!
Sincerely,
NedP1

The puller clearance on a 27 spline should be 1.2" on a 23 spline 1.4"

What's the puller for?
The drive gear is held by a spring clip underneath it.
It is removed without a puller.

Tom454, on some Munices (early ones?), the speedometer drive gear is a press fit. I know that is how it is on my Muncie.

Got it 5Speed - Thanks
Tom, thanks as well. The plastic gear/steel housing is indeed held in by a clip and is called the driven gear.
There is an O-ring seal on the steel hsg. that seals in the aluminum bore.
The steel gear (sometimes plastic) on the main shaft is called the drive gear.
At least that's the way I understand it.
I posted on C3 Forum as there are a lot more members than C1/C2. I have a C2, but most of my buddies have C3s.
Sincerely,
Ned

I was assuming it was a later model Muncie.... C3 ish vs C2.
I also own a C2/4spd.

1969 and 1970 Muncies had a plastic drive gear held on with a clip on the mainshaft. They fit poorly and fall off all the time, resulting in one having to remove the tail to stick it back in place. I prefer the press fit drive gear.
For what its worth you don't need a puller unless you are just changing the speedo gear. Remove the rear snap ring and just press the whole thing off in one shot from 2nd gear all the way up.
Heat the new gear up on your stove and slide it into place.
