Default Seat belt question

I’m installing new belts in my ’78. The passenger side anchor bolt WILL NOT COME OUT! I’ve tried everything I can think of and only accomplished destroying 5 torx 50 bits.

Can someone tell me if I cut the bolt out can I go back with a bolt/nut combination and not have any safety concerns?

Get a drill bit a little smaller than the Torques bolt and drill through the bolt. If I am correct and they are the same as my 71's bolt it goes through the floorboard and the bottom half of the bolt is exposed under the car. Make sure you drill stright so you don't mess up the nutplate that the bolt screws into. You can then use an easy out (found at part stores) and my be able to get it out. If this fails then you have a date with a hammer :smash: :smash: and can break the bolt apart with a small cold chisel but be very careful not to damage anything other than the bolt. What are you going to do with the old seatblets?? I am looking to put some lap belt retractors in my 71. If you want to get rid of the I am interested if they still work reasonably well. I can get them rewebbed if necessary. Let me know and e-mail me if you want.

Lonnie, spray it with Blaster penetrating lube and let it soak a few days.Spray it a couple times a day.If you have an impact gun try to break it loose using it. Good Luck Chuck

It is ancored in fiberglass isnt it? I wonder if you could just cut the bolt out of the fiber glass ? Though I dont know if you could keep the same amount of strength thats there now?

There are metal reinforcment plates and cables under the car to anchor the seatbelts. I don't think Ralph Nader would let you mount seatbelts to fiberglass  it would just pull out under stress. The AIM has good pictures of the anchors.

I was able to get a pipe wrench on the outer surface of the bolt. Destroyed the bolt but it did come out. Roger
