I recently changed my plugs and wires in my 69. It was running great but I ended up burning through the number 8 cylinder plug wire. I bought a new set of wires and was putting them in tonight, I also decided to change the cap and rotor while I was at it. When I was done, I reconnected the battery disconnect terminal, and I heard some sparking, and smelled the electrical smoke smell (may have been from battery sparking when connecting the disconnect). But the car wouldnt turn over at all. I heard a noise coming from my new electric fan control box. It def. sounds like a relay is turning on and off super fast, that Im sure about. Im assuming that the relay is turning on and off because its probably a 5V relay and the voltage it is getting right at the turn on voltage. I fluked the constant 12V on the alternator and now the reading is only 3.5V. At the battery, I read 12.5V or so. Any ideas where I'm losing 9V from? When I try and start I get absolutely nothing either, no sound nothing. I cant turn the lights on or the flashers, nothing. The electrical on the car seems to be gone. Any idea what may have happened? Im at a loss. Thanks for the help guys.
I should also say that I havent pulled the battery and brought it to a parts store yet to see if its good or not. I hadnt started the car in a week, but I dont think the battery would have died that fast especially since it was working beautifully before.

And a burnt fusible link would cause the entire car not to have electric? Any ideas what would have caused this to happen, since I dont want to fix it and have the unfixed problem cause the same thing to happen.
Yep, pretty much. Disconnect whatever you were working on, replace the fuse link and then reconnect your stuff very carefully. You have a dead short somewhere, so be carefull.
Well I got the vette running again. I took out the control box on my electric fan, unhooked all the wires going to it but the car still did not start. So I pulled the battery, low and behold the cells were low on water, so I filled them up and it started right up. When I did hook the control box for the electric fan back up, the fan wouldnt work even though I had correct voltages going to the correct pins on the box. I verified that the fan did actually work when bypassing the control box but not when hooked to the control box. So to make life easier I completely bypassed the control box which really didnt matter because I chose to run my fan 100% of the time anyway. So long story short, I think the relay died in the control box preventing the fan from turning on (not really sure what made this happen) and my battery was dead. But now the vette is up and running again. Thanks for the help guys.
