Finally hit 13s last night. Ran a 2.0sec 60ft, 8.958sec@79.23mph 1/8th, 13.946sec@98.73mph 1/4. I soundly beat a 5.0 stang that was dressed in slicks. :D On the last run I had fuel problems and the motor died on me at half track, so the night turned out to be bitter sweet. But sweet nonetheless!!
Maurice ran his 73 and gave a 3rd gen TPI Camaro Z28 a classic whooping. The Camaro had him out of the hole, but by 3/4 track the Camaro only saw his taillights. I think he was running 101 thru the traps. Maurice gave me the opportunity to run his machine, so I jumped on it. Awesome ride. Although I redlighted, I was able to get a low 14@101.5mph out of her.
We got to meet another Vetter at the track and had a good time with him too! It was fun going head to head with these guys.
Needing to shift at 5500 rpm for best ET, I think I'm very near the limit of a stock L48 shortblock. Hey L48 guys, anybody spinning higher rpms reliably?

I can vouch for the 13 sec run, I was about 2 car lenghts behind him when he did it! I also got the loser time slip, my first loss since putting in my new engine. I am now 9-1, so much for my perfect record, but hey, if I am going to loose to somebody, I prefer it to be a vette!
Nicely done nunus79...sorry to hear of your other prob. tho...keep up the great work...TNT :seeya PS. From what I hear, 6K is abt max. RPM without a balance job on the L-48 2 bolt...otherwise :U
Thanks for the replies guys. 6000 rpms, good to know, gives me a little elbow room & comfort. I thought 5500 was a ceiling and shifting right at 5500 made me feel uneasy.
I pulled off the fuel line at the carb & I'm dry. I cranked the motor over several times and nothing shoots out. I'm going to try my Mighty Vac to see if I can siphon fuel up, thereby verifying that it is not just an obstruction in the fuel line/tank. But all indications so far point to the fuel pump.
PS My Instant Messanger does not work right at home computer. I only saw your window frame and logo.
I have a balanced L-48, mostly stock. It is quite smooth at 5000 RPM but I think that I run out of cam beyond 5000 RPM, the power seems to flatten out. It's nice to have the engine rev high without excessive vibration but it does not really matter much if the power curve is not there, I end up shifting anyways.
It cost $200-$300 extra for the balancing, I have not yet decided whether it was worthwhile.
