I had to use them, I installed the stock mounts with my 385 and the first time I barley touch the gas broke the mounts and punched a small hole in the heater box (thats torque!). Tends to be a bit more vibration with the solid mounts....you can try to cut down on this by using urethane mounts.
I am running a poly one the driver side and rubber on the passenger side, the eng barely moves when you get on it but does not vibrate at idle with a slightly lobey cam since the rubber side absorb the vibration
One benefit of the solid mounts is that it stiffens the front frame of the car; keeping it from flexing as much.

I agree. I resisted solid mounts because of the vibration at idle but I also wanted to stiffen the front frame up especially around the steering box so I went solid. I honestly don't notice a vibration and wished I had gone the solid route years ago.
Like Twin Turbo said don't go solid on the tranny mount. I left mine poly.
