i did alot of research on this b4 i bought mine. the best of the best is the digital snap on. its a tach as well and you can dial in the adv. so you dont need timing tape or a degreed balancer. an old analogue one with the dial would probably be better as if it isnt broken by now it probably wont. then i went on ebay of course and found what looked exactlly like the snap on with the same features. it is an innova which im pretty sure is chinese but it was 75 instead of 375 and it works great. i went from what i considered to be a good seat of the pants timer with the help of timing tape on the balancer, to a student of LARS and i truly believe that my car runs superiorly to any previous settings. ive played with springs, weights, and vacume advance comfortably and the light really makes it easy to see the changes.

Looks like a Taiwan company. Taiwanese products are generally much better quality than Chinese & they aren't commies either! Top of the line is now about $120, think I'll order one.
Hello,
Which ever one you get, I would suggest that it has the digital out put that lets you check timing advance.
I went the cheap way the first time, and spent about $30 on a basic timing light. I figured that I only needed to check the timing to 8-12 degrees. Then as I learned more on the forum, I found out that I needed to test timing up to 52 degrees or so. I couldnt do it, so it was back to the store to buy a new timing light with all the features.
And it has a digital tach next to the timing set points, so I can also check the idle and rpms with the timing.
dont go cheap. Get what you need so that you dont have to buy another one later.
