Hey guys... help me out here. Take a look at this auction and tell me if I am just losing it. It does not appear these fenders are of the 1970 variety. The seller states they are original, but my 70 vents openings are no where near this closed off.... This Corvette appears to have 73 and up fenders... or some glass work on the vents... thoughts?
No, you're not - the guy says the original egg crate inserts are in a box along with the original hood. It's hard to tell what is going on because the photos are all from a distance.
Either:
1) there is some kind of insert to replace the originals in there or
2) the originals were cracked up in an accident and were replaced about the same time a new hood was added...
Doesn't look too bad elswhere, however - there are no photos of the frame...
Looks like the previous owner closed them in. The add does say that the egg crate grills are stored along with the original hood. I have a couple of other questions about that car as well.
What is the vent on the decklid? I have never seen that before. Is that for the A/C??
Why does it have amber front marker lights. I thought all 70's have clear?
"Nice original car". Yep, except for the L88 hood with 454 emblems, the '73 front fenders, the outside rear view mirrors, the side pipes, the shifter console and the paint. Yep, a nice original car.
I wouldn't be surprised if it had a salvage title.
Here is the response when I dropped him a note citing the fenders looked to be from newer model..
"...Thanks for the note but....
The fenders are original. The egg crates were removed wnen the car was repainted and the other style inserts were installed in the original fenders. The stock egg crate inserts can be reinstalled if you wish, and they come with the car..."
What I don't get... even though it is not totally original but appears nice, who is paying 35K for this car? Surely a Corvette enthusiast knows the market... right? Would an average car guy drop this much? 35K for this car is incredible money... isn't it?
Where is the sun visors? As far as the fender vent, nice job there but there are many other things that consern me. The rear defoger switch on the wrong side, I'm afraid of this one guys, run don't walk, AL.

$35,000 is insane for that car. I would guess the last 2 bidders that went over $27000 are shill bidders, the sellers buddies. And it hasn't met the reserve??? That is the problem with E bay cars, they don't charge a final value fee on cars and $40 lists it. I have seen the same car list and "sell" 3 times for unrealistic prices, to shill bidders.
I think the seller is suffering from a severe case of "Barrett-Jacksonitis"
Originality is like virginity,,,,,only once.
Peace,,,Moosie
Moosie... Jacksonitis... HAHAHAHAHA..
It's funny, I watch the auction and for some reason I think they are shady. I don't know why but my wife and I laugh about it... kinda like this seller on ebay. He hasn't responded to anymore of my questions. Wonder why. Funny, when you own a Vette... you know everything. When SOME....not all... SELL a Corvette... they play dumb.
I knew I was right but just want to discuss with the Sexual Intellectual Corvette Community....
You can nit-pick on the gills if you wish but there were only 6,648 convertibles produced in 1970 and only 4,473 LS-5 454s. If you combine those two, how many convertibles had a 454? No one knows of course but that is a rare car.

It might be thought of as uncommon... but I wouldn't think of a 70 454 vert as rare. Now a ZR1 or a LT1 vert... most definately. Good point Paul.
The only way that car would be worth over $35,000 is if it was totally correct. Paint, options, #s, everything. The incorrect paint kills the NCRS value. Automatic is a deduction on these also. Cruise control??? Power Seats??? Wrong front clip??? Rare car???
Your right... no surprise. This car is most likely worth $23K-$26K in current condition... and to me... that's stretching it. The fenders are the biggest stick as we are talking massive amount of time and money to put correct 1970 pieces back on...
A $35K-$40k 1970 Corvette should be damn near perfect if it is not a ZR1 or Convertible LT-1. Not that I mind as our cars are appreciating yearly... but reality-This car isn't worth or described accurately.
