I currently have a Holley pump which Bubba mounted on the frame near the starter(??). Where should it be mounted - near the tank in the back or up front somewhere?
Also, the gas line comes from the pump up the pass side of the engine near the dipstick to a T-shaped fuel pressure adjustment and then under the wiper door actuator and then up over the intake manifold through a fuel pressure gauge to the 850dp carb in a combination of rubber and copper lines. I've noticed that the stock way is chrome plated copper tubing routed up the front side of the block above the timing cover and back to the carb which I prefer. Would you leave it where it is or move it to the front? As always, thanks for the advice!!
Re: Where to mount electric fuel pump? (Marks69BB)
Marks69BB,
An electric fuel pump should be mounted as close to the tank as possible. I mounted mine on the outside of the frame rail on the passenger side. I would put a fuel filter between the tank and the pump [ you cant believe what comes out of the tank].
If you mount the pump in the rear you can run your fuel line up the front of the block as the original line did.

Re: Where to mount electric fuel pump? (The Wanderer)
Mine is mounted on the Diff cross member on a steel plate. the the routing is the same, I don't like the fuel lines going all the way around the engine.
Re: Where to mount electric fuel pump? (Marks69BB)
Mark that is an interesting question because on my 502 the pump is mounted where yours is. I always heard also that the electrics do a better job pushing than pulling but Jim Pace did the installation of my motor (before I owned the car) and they are a knowledgeable performance shop I guess and they mounted it there so I will be interested in the replies. Mine is the 50 gph GM performance parts pump.
Re: Where to mount electric fuel pump? (Marks69BB)
I mounted mine on the inside of the passenger frame rail right behind the diff cross member. One concern brought up in another thread was proximity to exhaust pipes. I have side pipes so that was not an issue.

[QUOTE]Mine is on the rear bumper support just below the tank.

So is mine. I also wired in an inertia switch from a '92 Mustang. It will cut the fuel pump off during a collision. Otherwise the fuel pump could continue to pump fuel out of a ruptured line. Just add a spark and you are fried chicken.
Re: Where to mount electric fuel pump? (Marks69BB)
It really doesn't matter where you mount it, front by the motor, middle, or close to the tank. I've seen pumps mounted all over the place, even by the rad core support, and they all work. Mine, like most is mounted on the outside of the rear frame by bumper support
