Default 4.11 rear gear question

a question about gears: if i get shorter rear gears in a 4 speeds trans car, lets say go from 3.70 to 4.11, will the four gears be 'shorter' or only the 4th will be shorter? (for shorter i mean that'll have same speed at higher revs or lower speed at same revs, in first/second/third and fourth) in the first case it would a help acceleration through the gears from standstill, in the second case it would be a waste of time and money.

am i right?

All the gears would be shorter since you would be replacing the rear end gears, you wouldnt be touching the tranny gears. So it will help with acceleration, because you will be a higher rpm. You'll be turning more rpm for the same speed as with your 3.70. With 4.10's your car wont be liking the highway too much (or should I say your wallet wont be liking the highway because you'll be at a high rpm).

It affects all gears. You'll have faster acceleration, but lower speed at a given RPM. Here's a good chart to compare I just saw here today:

Giuseppe - I have the 4.11 rear end with the TKO 600 5 speed. 4.11 with a powerful motor like yours and mine is really fun to drive. It brings my first 4 gears closer together so the motor really stays in the power range after each shift.

When i shift at 7500 rpm it only drops 2500 or 3000 rpm during the shift so i'm right at near max TQ. Most of the C-3 road race machines use 4.30 or 4.11 for the lower speed tracks and 3.90 or 3.73 for the higher speed tracks. My local 3.8 mile road tracing track 4.11 is just about perfect because my 7500 rpm in 4th gear is only attained on the longest main straight and it's right about 140 mph. I hit the rev limiter just a few seconds before the braking point.

your race machine would really come alive with 4.11 or 4.30 My 5th gear is an over drive for open roads only
