Ditto all the above. No syncros for reverse. Pretty standard for those years. Some of the true sports cars of the day had syncros for reverse, but not many. After all, you really need to "not grind" when going up/down thru the gears. I guess the feeling was that for the cost vs the effort, you can wait for it to spin down or go to first and then to reverse. On a good syncro box you can almost downshift, at speed, thru the gears without a clutch, by just blipping the throttle.
Now the real test is to drive a really old car (like from the 20-30's) and not grind too much going up thru the gears!
