help!!! leaking summit carb gas line

help!!! leaking summit carb gas line
i noticed while starting the engine i had a gas leak
it seems that the summit carb fuel line is leaking at the knurled thread in portion. i unassembled and placed thread tape on all threads of the assembly, but i still have a gas leak. there is a filter and a black o-ring in the location. is the o-ring to be positioned inside first to be sandwiched, or is it to be expanded over the outer diameter of the threads before being assembled? or worse, do i just have a faulty unit?
now i'll have to go back and re-paint the top of the block and intake!!!
