I need your advice for a reliable street/strip performance fuel pump setup for a SBC. What are the pro's & con's of mechanical vs. electric pumps? All replies appreciated.
I just put on a Holley fuel pump. I don't remember the model number but its the chrome one that doesn't require a regulator. Right now its pumping about 8PSI. Cost $49 or so. Don't think I'll need much more than that.
Why would one need a "performance" fuel pump on an otherwise stock engine? . Could the stock carb handle that extra amount or fuel or would rejetting be in store? I just changed my fuel pump and wasn't sure, so just went with a stock on on a stock 350. :blueangel:

i got my GNPP from Scoggin-dickey #6415325 21.95 $29 with shipping.
list is $56 at my local dealer
it's described in the GM Performance Parts catalog.
it is an excellent single valve pump, so it's flow is higher than stock, but less than the triple valve holley and carter pumps.
it can be rebuilt too!
Just noticed Cappy (Bionic) & Maurice planning on major gear changes. maybe I gotta go NOS just to keep up. Do you think the mechanical pumps can keep a wet spray setup happy?
I think that I would order the one drives61 suggested. I would not run any carb I owned over say 7 psi. and on a bypass system they work fine at 5. I have never run out my double pumper bowls at high rpm on the floor for in excess of 30 seconds. There is no need to over pressure them. The bowls are vented and proper float level and needle/seats maintain a correct level.
I would not use NO2 without a fuel log and a regulated system.
