I need to replace the uni's in my driveshaft on my 71BB auto (not the half shafts) is it possible to remove it without removing the diff etc, it looks pretty tight in there with the frame crossmember and all and I can't tell weather it is possible to manouver it enough to get it out. If the diff has to come out I'd rather start taking things apart in the easiest order if it all has to come out.
Any tips greatly appreciated.
No detachable front yolk here, what a pain in the ****. Out of curiosity iv'e been doin a little research on driveshafts and there's all sorts of combo's out there, and it dosn't matter what year/tranny etc, it seems to be the luck of the draw. Thanks fellas
If you can get it high enough to allow you some room, take the u-joint keepers out, get a socket just smaller than the u-joint cap, then knock it out with a hammer.
I have a T-56 and this is how I do it. When going back in with the new one just install the joint on 2 sides (out of car) and then rotate the shaft to get the other 2 legs without the caps into the yolk. Then add grease in the cap to keep bearings in place and gently tap one cap on a little past where the keeper goes. Install the keeper and roll shaft over to the other side.
Put grease in that cap and gently tap it in until the keeper will go on.
I hope this helps. I wanted a detachable yolk to fit this Viper output shaft but they wanted $240 for it. Ouch!
