the problem is when i take off (under hard acceleration) i have a real bad hesitation, it misses out for a second and then it kicks in any help in what i could be. Also i would like to know if anyone could tell me how to tell if my engine is the original or not. I own a 25th. ann. edition not pace car.

Set the initial advance at 12 to 16 BTDC. Get a distributer recurve kit and set the total timing at about 36 degrees BTDC at around 2800 RPM.

Once you have this done look at the accelerator pump in the carburetor.

Try changing the plugs, wires, rotar and cap and see if that helps. It was liking dropping a new engine in my '76 L82 .

What kind of carb are you running? If all other things are correct (timing, good wires, plugs and ignition) ,it sounds like the accelerator pump. You'll need to disconnect it and see if that makes the hesitation better or worse. If it makes it better, then it's putting way too rich of a shot, and you'll need to replace it with a smaller one. But if the hesitation is the same with the acc pump disabled (most likely), then you know it isn't working and needs to be replaced.
