If you have the factory timing gear and chain then you can't do it. You will have to upgrade to a aftermarket chain and gear set. Advance or retard setting can be made to the crank with some sets or to the cam with other sets usually in increments of 2 degrees. Have a look at summit web site to get some priceing and brand options. Cam degreeing can be done with the engine in the car but can be akward, but still easier than pulling the motor to do it.
Can someone on here explain how to advance a cam a couple degrees?
Yes, even with factory timing set, you can advance or retard. First buy a "cam bushing kit" ... remove top (cam) gear ... drill cam pin hole out ... press in eccentric bushing from kit ... reinstall cam gear ... align timing marks ... button it up ... done. Several companies such as Comp & Mr Gasket offer cam bushing kits. This job can also be done using OE t set along with an "offset crank key" ... that's an offset woodruff key ... installs with lower crank gear. The first method using cam bushing is easier. Or, for under $25 you can buy a whole new timing set that has 3 keyways (advance 4, stock, retard 4) ... check a Cloyes P/N C3023X. Best solution is a new timing set.

Your Timing sprogs probably have symbols to line up. My timing chains also come with marks to advance and retard the cam by rotating the cam relative to the crankshaft and then putting on the timing chain.
