I want to put the GM serpentine system on my car. You get a 1 wire alternator. What do you have to change to do this. Also any problem with the change?
Yes and Yes
The 3 wire alt from the factory has a connector on the side that has 2 connections. 1 for voltage sensing basically in the middle (electrically) of the car. The second connection is the exciter circuit for the alternator and also turns on the GEN light in the case of an alternator failure. There is a reason GM and everyone else uses 3 wire vs 1 wire.
The 3 wire you have will bolt up in the new bracket setup, but it might have to be indexed. That will happen if the connection on the back of the alt and/or the side end up on the engine side with new setup

I'm running a 1 wire alt, I have the Zoops serpentine set-up and it is working great. I have also read the paper on the Madelectric site and had some concerns with it also. My gen light works fine and this thing puts out some voltage and amps. I have only had the car together for a short time and I have not driven it on the road, although I have been driving it around the yard.
