I have a 80 with true duels. The problem is they hang too low under the frame. Some one told me that the cross member from a older vette with the cut outs for the pipes will bolt up to my 80. If this is true and you know the year that will fit that information will be a great help to me. I plan to replace the complete exhaust system from the headers back. If that cross menber will bolt up I can get the ground clearance that I need.
I don't know what years if it matters, but I do know they will work. The 77 I had had the holes for the exhaust to run thru. Bowtie Overdrives also sells one that will work.

I have a 82 and I assume they're the same.(not positive, tho) I have headers and no Cat. My left side runs over and runs under the pass. seat...right beside the right bank. I have 2 1/2" pipes and there's no problem with ground clearance or anything else. Mine were custom made at a muffler shop, tho. I haven't got a H or Y pipe.

How much did the shop charge? I have an 80 and when I bought it the previous owner had a custom
2" dual exaust installed. I recently installed a 400hp crate engine and what to upgrade to a 2-1/2" dual.
the earlier crossmember will not bolt up, the bolts that run up into the frame will but the through bolts on the inside of the frame rails won't, you'll have to cut, bend and reweld the crossmember there to get a proper fit. Why not just take out the stock crossmember, weld a bulge on top where it slopes down (the bulge would have to run up into the bracket for the parking brake guide wheel) and cut a notch in the bottom for clearance? That's what I did on this 82, works like a champ.

I don't remember....it's been 8 years. I can hardly remember yesterday. Any good shop should be able to do it. The spot under the pass. seat that the single pipe ran....holds the two 2 1/2" pipes now. So it really in a stock location. Good luck

I have an 81 with headers, no cat, 2 1/2 pipes, and an H pipe. Left side runs over under the pass side. No ground clearance issues even going over speed bumps. Rossi Custom Exhaust in Warwick, RI did the work for about $450.00. Warwick is not that far from Revere.
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
I had to modify the ends on pre '80 crossmember like TT says when I put my 3 in. system on. Wasn't a big dieal for someone that knows what they are doing.
