just out of curiosity: I just got an offer (email suscription), solid lifters for flat tappet cams. The ad says that they don't work with hydr. flat tappet cams
I thought that you could run solid lifters with a hydr. cam but not a hydr. lifter with a cam designed for solid lifters ??
Does a cam that is designed for hydr. lifters need the oil cushion in the lifter for some sort of dampening ???
Solid lifter cams are ground with clearance ramps and lift ramps. The the clearance ramp is slow and the lift ramp is steep. This way the valve train can take up the slack (lash) and set the valves down with less shock/impact than if the whole valvetrain were tightened up and valves slammed closed at full lift ramp speed. Hydraulic cams do not have a clearance ramp ground into them.
