What do you guys use to stop the carpet from fadeing. I inastalled a new interior carpet from Al Knoch interiors only 2 years ago. It is already showing signs of fadeing.
yeah...I got carpet fade also real bad and being its a convert in Florida with the top always down and being driven almost as a daily driver does not help. I would also like to know about what to do to stop the fadding as I am about to replace my carpet and thought it was just because the previous owner installed crappy carpet and was going to buy Al knoch but if that is fadding too then I am really screwed.
I had this problem with the VG condition black carpet in my 69. First, I tried RIT black dye using cold water, as there was no way I could get a sufficient volume of water hot enough. That did not work, but black spray paint did. With the carpet out of the car, I applied black spray paint on the faded areas; I think it was semi gloss. The application was light coats until coloring the faded area was achieved. If you spray heavy coats the paint will make the carpet stiff in that area.
This method might not be satisfactory for a show car, but worked well enough for a driver.
The front section is easy enough to remove after the seats and sills are out. It also makes washing them much easier. I washed mine with Tide detergent in one of those small plastic children swimming pools. After it dries, spray it lightly with the paint and it will look new. Don't over use the paint!
Interior Dye in your carpet color! Can be purchased from Mid-America. Same dye works on plastic if you buy the plastic prep - also from Mid-America Motor Works.

You have a rag top? if so heck yes store it in a garage as much as possible. If you got a coupe get the back and side glass tinted. and even then then store it in the garage that also keeps the paint happy and dash, and any other stuff other than the carpet.
My new black ACC carpets started to fade to orange within 3 years, even though the car is seldom left baking in the sun.
I used "Technicians Choice" dye p/n TEC99514 ($6.50 a spray can from my local speed shop) and it's good 5 years later. Cheapest problem fix on my vette yet.
