Default Engine Mount

I am completing the suspension rebuild on the 78, L-82, TH350 A/T, 4:11 rear corvette, (T/A ,Upper/Lower Control Arms complete rebuild).
Took it for a short drive down the street with the hood off, and noticed my engine pops up under load, on the drivers side....maybe 1/2 inch. Enough for the mechanical fan to touch (eat through) the radiator shroud. I had the drivers-side engine mount replaced a year ago by a qualified mechanic. It appears to need replacing again.

How do I check if the engine mount is broken...or is it normal to have engine movement on the mounts?
Can I replace it myself ?...I have a floor jack and tools, but looks tight.
Recomendation for a rugged engine mount?

Its tight, but basic tools is all you need. Take the weight off the mount with the jack, remove the bolts and it will come out. Its probly broken. TRW makes one with a safety lock to prevent that type of failure.

Thanks for the insperation. I ended up removing the engine mounts;
driver side was Anchor brand craked and passenger side looked original and had rubber rot. Replacing them with Energy suspension poly mounts I purchased from AutoZone good value at $22 each. But the fit was tight and had to spread the mount to fit chassis mount. over all a PITA, but worth the effort. Hope to get good life out the poly mounts.
