I am new to the forum, and have a question regarding fusible links. I have a 77 L82, 350. The alternator is aftermarket and instead of having a connector into the alternator the wires clip on but the connections are exposed. Today the generator light began to flash and a quick check showed that the red wire to the alternator was loose. I removed the wire clip adjusted it and was in the process of putting it back on when (zap) quick spark. Now there is no power to the car. I am assuming it is a fusible link but cannot locate it. Any suggestions on its location, or if I am off base on the diagnosis.
Great picture and appreciate the fast response. I went right out and checked again. The wires are solid wires straight up! (The car has been worked on so I am wondering if the previous owner took them out) No link in them. One runs into a taped set of wires, but there are no bulges indicating a connector, and the other runs straight up to a factory connector by the windshield wiper motor. So I was sitting there scratching my head I when I began to hear the key warning tone sound. Reached in, twisted the key and the car started up! I put the windows up and put the car back in the driveway. Almost afraid to touch it. Needless to say I have no confidence in what it is doing at the moment. Any other suggestions?
Trace down the wires from the alternator where the fuse links are supposed to be, there is an intermittent connection there somewhere. Wiggle all the connections with the key in so you can hear the buzzer.
