Why is it "difficult" to get a good amount of torque from a 350ci engine?
Most of the "high performance " sbc (unmodified) corvette engines (350-350, 350-300,350-370 hp) read 380 lbs foot torque (according to the console data plate) Many have modified their sbc engines (383,406 etc) and still appear not to get a great amount of torque. Why is this?
Who says it's so? How much torque are you looking for? A typical street engine is going to produce about 1lb/ft per ci gross. This is a nothing special engine. You raise torque by concentrating airflow improvment at your torque peak. Peak VE occurs at the torque peak so where ever you want that to be is where you spend your money. You must be ignoring a lot of numbers since a well done engine is going to have more torque than stock. A decent 383 is going to make around 450lb/ft.
The easiest way to raise torque is through mechanical or chemical supercharging.
