What diameter converter would I use in place of the stock one? I'm running around 400 hp and I'll use 3.90-4.11 gears. I'm hoping to use a 2500 stall. Would this be enough or should I go a bit more?
What size motor do you have? Street/strip or pure race? 350s have less low-end torque so its better to have more stall, and bigger cams move your power into higher rpms so they also need more stall. I have a 355 w/ about 400 hp that I want to keep streetable. So, I am going to go w/ a 3000 stall and 3.70. Hope this helps .

Maybe a 3000 if your going to street drive, if your going to be a
racer more. With 390, 4.11s 2500 you never get anything for free
with more stall comes more slipage.

The amount of stall would depend on the torque curve of the engine, and how much you could live with on the street.... big or small block?......cam duration, vehicle weight, etc. But generally, 2500 is a good performance stall rpm, and most manufacturers utilize an 11" converter for this.
Well, I'm not gonna do the strip much at all. But I at least want to do it once a year maybe. I think I'll go with a 2500 stall just to keep the tranny temps a little lower.
Do they make converters that are for the 153 tooth flex plate and
another to fit the 168 flex plate ?? or will one converter fit either
size flexplate ??

I know TCI makes dual bolt pattern ones to fit either one....otherwise, check manufacturer's specs as to what fits.
I called Hughes and they said that it will fit my stock flex plate. He also said that I may want to think about going with a 3000 stall. The only problem I have with that is the price really jumps up when I want a little more stall.
